Reading and Language Arts

Third grade is a grade where students begin reading to learn. It is very important to find time to read EVERY NIGHT! The best way to become a good reader is to read.

Reading Counts: Children read books, take quizzes on the computer, and earn points based on the quizzes they pass. They will earn rewards for the number of points they earn.
Lexile: Children will take a computerized test 5 times during the year. Their Lexile is based on how well they answer comprehension questions. Our goal for third grade is 500-800 by the end of the year. You child will be reading books in their Lexile. Reading books at their ability level helps students practice their reading and gain confidence as a reader.
Dibels: This is a test based on fluency, or how many words can be read in a one minute timing. Our goal is 110 words by the end of the year.
